Albany N.Y. Reaches Deal to Repeal "Rockefeller Drug Law"

ALBANY — Gov. David A. Paterson and New York legislative leaders have reached an agreement to dismantle much of what remains of the state’s strict 1970s-era drug laws, once among the toughest in the nation.

The deal would repeal many of the mandatory minimum prison sentences now in place for lower-level drug felons, giving judges the authority to send first-time nonviolent offenders to treatment instead of prison. The plan would also expand drug treatment programs and widen the reach of drug courts at a cost of at least $50 million.

New York’s drug sentencing laws, imposed during a heroin epidemic that was devastating urban areas nearly four decades ago, helped spur a nationwide trend toward mandatory sentences in drug crimes. But as many other states moved to roll back the mandatory minimum sentences in recent years, New York kept its laws on the books, leaving prosecutors with the sole discretion of whether offenders could be sent to treatment.

"Me & This Jawn" is the beginning of a three part video arc detailing the twists and turns of the on screen couple's relationship, (“Piece of Me” and “The Breakup” will follow shortly).

Let's hope music fans will starts to take notice of this interesting video arc and realize that someplace in between west coast artists Snoop Dogg and Will.I.Am, there's a guy named Murs.

Back in the early 90's, controversy swirled if Boss was a hardened criminal with mad rhyme skills or a former Catholic school student who was created by Russell SImmons and Def Jam.

Whatever the case, "Deeper" was one the hardest tracks ever made during the West Coast era of Hip Hop. Although Boss never achieved the longevity as a MC Lyte or Queen Latiafah, "Deeper" still stands as one of the premiere party joints in 2009.

Snoop Dogg appears at Nation of Islam Convention

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Snoop Dogg has made an appearance at the Nation of Islam's annual convention in a Chicago suburb.

Wearing sunglasses, a dark suit and a tie, the rapper spoke briefly in front of a crowd of thousands Sunday and praised the Chicago-based movement's Minister Louis Farrakhan.

Farrakhan has long held relationships with famous rappers and hip-hop artists. Snoop, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, called himself the leader of the "hip-hop community" and says he'll always seek out the minister.

Snoop gave a $1,000 donation to the Nation of Islam, then sat on stage and smiled and nodded as Farrakhan delivered a speech.

Rapper T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris, appeared via recorded video. He told followers that education is the key to success.
