Activision Confirms DJ Hero For 2009

(Escapist Magazine) Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has confirmed the existence of the oft-rumored DJ Hero, a Guitar Hero spinoff with a turntable peripheral.

Though the existence of a Guitar Hero spinoff called DJ Hero has basically been assumed since Activision trademarked the name last year (and since it just makes so much sense), Activision has been coy about making the game official. Now, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has made something of an inadvertent official announcement of the game's existence, even pegging it with a release window of later this year.

Speaking on the success of peripheral-driven games during an interview with CNBC, Kotick pointed out the massive success of Guitar Hero and then mentioned another game that will presumably come in a gigantic box: DJ Hero. "We have this product called DJ Hero coming out later this year, which is a turntable that you actually can play competitively and spin discs and mix songs," Kotick said.

DJ Hero won't be the only videogame record-scratcher in town this year, though. This spring will see the release of Scratch: The Ultimate DJ, another Guitar Hero-With-Turntables that has the creative backing of hip-hop producer Quincy Jones III and a turntable peripheral being designed by Numark, the world's most ubiquitous DJ equipment manufacturer. Sounds like Scratch certainly has its stuff together, so we might see a battle for the throne of top DJ game before year's end.

As for DJ Hero, rumors point to B-Boy developer FreeStyle Games as the developer of the title, as they were acquired by Activision last year to work on "unspecified music games." Aside from that and the information blabbed about by Kotick just now, the exact nature of DJ Hero remains in the dark. How big will the fake turntable be? Will you be able to play it in your lap, will you have to buy a coffee table to rest it on, or maybe it'll come with fold-out legs so you can just set it up wherever you want?

Also, I wonder if Grandmaster Flash or Funkmaster Flex will get as angry over this game as certain guitarists have over Guitar Hero. Somehow, I doubt it.

J Dilla in Vibe: Make Sure You Write A Will

In this month's issue of Vibe (with an old looking Kanye West on cover), they did a great piece on the late great J. Dilla.
This is great read f or anyone who is fan of J. Dilla or whom want to know more about one of the best producers in Hip Hop history.

In the piece you will learn:

1.) What a great producer he was.

2.) The fight he put up to finish his last album before he died from Lupus.

3.) The financial issues that is still hampering his family, three years since his death, (Dilla left two daughters to provide for, a sizable IRS bill, and unresolved legal issues surrounding the use of his beats.)

If there a few things everyone should take away from this article is that:

A) You should something that love all the way to up your last breath.

B.) Take care of your finances.

The one thing that is not talked about in Hip Hop is having a will.

It doesn't matter if you have 100 million dollars like Diddy or two hundred dollars like Hammer, by the time you are in your 30's (or before that if make some money in your 20's), you should have a will.

Why? Because it ties up a lot of financial loose ends that will hopefully keep your loved ones out of court (i.e. divsion of property, burial requests, etc.).

When you do decide to write a will, make sure you update it every 2-3 months.

When Heather Ledger (The Joker, Dark Knight) died last year, he did not revise his will after his daughter was born.

Although, there were some legal issues, it seems like his daughter will be financially taken care of by Ledger's parents, ( The mother of his child (Michelle Williams) was also missing out of the will, so her stake in Ledger's personal property is not as clear cut.)

The lesson here is don't be like Heath Ledger and J. Dilla. Take the time to talk to a lawyer, financial planner or go on internet and learn more about wills; because in the long run your family will thank you for it.

Barack Obama's Letter To His Daughters

In Sunday's Parade Magazine, Barack Obama wrote a letter to his daughters Sasha and Malia. Here's an excerpt of that letter:

"...When I was a young man, I thought life was all about me-about how I'd make my way in the world, become successful, and get the things I want. But then the two of you came into my world with all your curiosity and mischief and those smiles that never fail to fill my heart and light up my day. And suddenly, all my big plans for myself didn't seem so important anymore.

I soon found that the greatest joy in my life was the joy I saw in yours. And I realized that my own life wouldn't count for much unless I was able to ensure that you had every opportunity for happiness and fulfillment in yours.

In the end, girls, that's why I ran for President: because of what I want for you and for every child in this nation."
